Susan Boyle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY

Nobody believed she could sing the way she sang.
The cynicism, the mocking, the sneering from the audiences and the panel.
A share of it.. from you and me.

Shock.
Her voice gripped your heart.
The song gripped your heart because it was sang by her.
The feeling was so tremendous juxtaposing with the earlier ridicule.

And when she finished delivering her piece, she walked away.
Perhaps, she was nervous; Perhaps, she has already made her point.
All she wanted to do is to sing in front of a huge audience.
After 47 years of her life.
she made this move.
But it was more than that,

she herself... is a fairytale to the modern, cynical bunch of city dwellers.
Touching our heart so deeply.
leaving us speechless and teary-eyed, regardless of our age.

And now, there is a sudden huge outburst of attention dedicated to the simple, village girl.
Fanclub? Websites? Interviews?
No matter how short-lived the attention,
no matter how ridiculous this surge of attention seems...
At least, she made an impact to those who watched that performance.
perhaps a 'wakeup call' as mentioned by the female judge,
we need more of such fairytales to reflect and to be touched by the beautiful things that happen in our lives.

Half-time break...

Well well well... I've just handed up my health research proposal to our dear Korean Prof here. :) Everybody felt so insecure about this term paper, cos its very different from the 'normal' term papers that we have been doing for 4 years. Its too quantitative.. ahhaahah. So all of us felt like exams have ended right after we handed up a term paper and began snapping picture with dear Korean prof. And he was so shy. HAAHA...
A real decent man with principles and strong moral values, thats what i conclude from the past 11 weeks :) Er.. as for the grades, i cant rlly conclude.. cos we still dun really know what he wants. HAHA!

Gosh.. I cant believe it, 2 more weeks later i'll be sitting for my final final final final exams! I'm not so concerned about the exams. HAHAH.. i mean i do, but i'll miss my uni life more. Hons year was intellectually satisfying and I like the different types of challenges that keeps pushing us to adapt and move away from our comfort zone. I don't particularly miss some people, but rather the school.

Got an sms from my fren.. a fren whom I gone through a lot with in my hons year.

"... Somehw everytime I tok or lk at ur msg i will smile. .. Also u r so swt. Touched. I wana tear. To noe tt u will be there n tt i am nt alone. jia you for ur xxx paper. After tt i guess we just hve to figure out a way for stats bt we will cum to tt..."

I like this kind of relationship. We have our own space and own life to lead, but we are bound together in some ways.. to complete some things together. And we know that our encouragements and presence for each other keep us going. Speaking about that, i need to keep some distance away from another friend again. I enjoy being with her but it gets very frustrating to feel suffocated. Oh boy, and e moment i type this sentence, she just called me again. Perhaps everybody's notion of 'friendship' and 'closeness' mean different things altgt. No matter what, its time to distance myself a bit from her again. Ha..

Lastly, I received a call from the funny uncle again. He told me that I've won myself either 优异奖 or 特别奖 for the 国际散文比赛。And I don't remember feeling very excited or what, cos i was rushing my health essay when he called. Ha! Oh well, but its nice to know that the first 3 prizes were non-Singaporeans too. HAHAHA... onli 3 Singaporeans got into the finals and we were the youngest of all. The rests were from Malaysia, China, Thailand.. blah blah. And i'm proud of myself, cos i spent about 2 -3 days (not full days somemore) to write that essay. woahah..

Thank you. I will continue to write... for myself and people who understand the subtle words i piece together to tell a story, a story about you and me. Somehow, we all can find ourselves in the story i write.
